He was originally from Crete, which was then part of the Republic of Venice, and trained in the tradition of Byzantine icon painting. Early in his career, he moved to Venice, where he was influenced by artists such as Titian and Tintoretto. This exposure led him to develop a more dynamic and expressive style.Later, he traveled to Rome, where he studied Renaissance art and began to develop his unique artistic vision. However, he struggled to gain recognition there. In 1577, he moved to Toledo, Spain, where he spent the rest of his life and produced his most famous works.El Greco\u2019s paintings are known for their dramatic use of color, elongated figures, and spiritual intensity. His style was highly individual and did not conform to the artistic norms of his time, which made him both controversial and innovative.
